October’s Puppet Slamwich is a Croque Monsieur, a sumptuous serving of the deliciously familiar and the delectably foreign and unknown!!!

Baltimore’s Alexander D’Agostino debuts Horseboy, a mystical tale about spirit creatures on a quest.

C. Ryan Patterson, Rachel Valsing and Mary Pulcinella of Porch Puppets present their new shadow puppet show Millions of Cats! peopled by the fantastical characters and familiar streetscapes of Charm City.

The Grand Dame of the Cranky, DC’s Marianne Ross presents The Medicine Show, the story of Dr Stonestreet, and a Slightly Jaundiced History of Medicine.

Philly’s Geppetta performs The Light Bearer's Nightmare, a segment of her poetic puppet cabaret Beware Disembodied Phenomenas! in which a traveler gets wrapped up in a chilling mystery of a murdered cephalapod.

Strange encounters on the road also figure into David Greenfieldboyce’s Ruby Creek, a cautionary fairy tale with marionettes.

Surreal supplants the strange in The Pelican Brief, written by Josh Van Horne and directed by Chuck Green of BROS. A hit at the 10-minute Play Festival, this drama revolves around a fancy coconut put on trial for philanthropy. Welcome to the courtroom of the absurd.

A Call to Performers!

We are currently putting out a call to puppeteers/performers for our upcoming Puppet Slamwich Saturday, October 15th, 2011! If you think you may be a good fit for this show (or for a future slam) please email Valeska at causecompany@gmail.com ASAP!!!

Puppet Slamwich at Black Cherry Puppet Theater celebrates puppetry for adult audiences in all of its forms, from traditional
to experimental, as well as related genres, such as vaudeville, cabaret, sleight of hand, toy and object theater and handmade animation. Puppet Slawich hopes to introduce audiences to a broad array of puppetry, welcoming emerging and established artists from the Mid-Atlantic Region and beyond. We welcome seasoned puppeteers as well as artists new to puppetry and performance. We celebrate experimental, innovative, inclusive, transgressive, political and poetic work. We also invite traditional performances, from handpuppet shows to marionettes, to highlight the richness and depth of this art form. Shows can be anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes!
